DATALAB Architecture

Our information architecture defines our data structure, which provides a general framework for functionality, services development and implementation, fundamentally designed on two major blocks: backend and front end.

Knowledge Graph

The Knowledge Graph outlines the processes and the information architecture that supports the Global Data Terminal (GDT). It connects sources with the archipelago of variables and categorizes them through the thematic groups prioritized by the response and recovery plans for COVID-19. The diagram is constantly updated as the Centre’s data platform is enhanced.

Graphic Dataviz

At the Centre for Data and Innovation we prioritized visualizations  through graphs  in alliance with Tableau. Our aim is  to facilitate the process of spreading data, information and results of our work in order to generate knowledge, recommendations and public policy proposals. The graphic visualization allows users to identify patterns, trends and relationships between variables and  facilitates the interaction between the user and the data, making it possible to answer multiple questions.

COVID-19 Response

Through 2020 and with the support of the United Nations Agencies and donor countries, the United Nations Multi-Partner Trust Fund (MPTF) has allocated more than $60 million dollars in projects at the Global South in order to support response and recovery initiatives, plans and projects seeking to mitigate the impacts cause by the COVID-19 pandemic.

National Socioeconomic Response Plan

The United Nations provided a framework to implement response and recovery plans in multiple countries. Most of the countries in the Global South are already working hard to implement their Socioeconomic Response Plans (SERPs) in order to address the COVID-19 emergency and recover from social, economic, and political impacts.

Mobility

In accordance to the First pillar from the UNDS – Health- regarding the pandemic response, our COVID-19 terminal contrasts confirmed cases, active cases and deaths per million people. It also presents flight departure dynamics and the Google General Mobility Indexes organized by categories, allowing users to visualize different citizen mobility patterns in 2020.

Users may select a country in order to analyze each specific case and download, access or plug all data from our open data platform.

International Departures & Mobility

Contrasting specific country performances with regional trends is possible through the regional exploration of health and mobility data. The following visualization contrasts COVID-19 cases per country with mobility trends and international departures.

Policy Tracker

Targeted or general restrictions in mobility have been implemented in most countries as an attempt to control the pandemic. In the visualization below, you can see the correlation between restriction in gatherings and COVID-19 cases.

Policy Tracker and Mobility Report With Covid Data

Targeted or general restrictions in mobility have been implemented in most countries as an attempt to control the pandemic. In the visualization below, you can see the correlation between restriction in gatherings and COVID-19 cases.

Petroleum Barrels Production

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted most human activities, including commodities. These have become a great source of information to monitor the economic impacts and risks in each country in terms of production (supply) and consumption (demand) of non renewable energy sources.

Users may select a country to analyze each specific case and download, access or plug all data from our open data platform.

Natural Disasters

Natural disasters are something humanity has had to live with for thousands of years, which is why risk management, risk mitigation and resilience efforts are so important to keep track of during the COVID-19 crisis.

Users may filter by types of natural disasters and year to analyze each specific case and download, access or plug all data from our open data platform.

Inequity

The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the gender gaps all over the world, especially in the Global South. Efforts are required to mitigate the effects the pandemic has had in the modest improvements that have taken place in the last decades.

Users may select a country to analyze each specific case and download, access or plug all data from our open data platform.

Education

The pandemic has forced massive changes in the way kids are getting schooled throughout the world and online learning has become a new normal. Some schools have closed in-person learning and embraced online learning, others have opened with limitations or have fully opened depending on the rate of infections in each country.

Geographic Dataviz

The visualization of information from a geographic perspective is critical for implementing concepts such as complexity or networks in the analytical model of the Data and Innovation Centre. Thanks  to our ally Mapbox we can develop visualizations that allow us to recognize the power of information organized under geographical criteria to generate pertinent and relevant knowledge regarding  the needs of the response and recovery processes against COVID-19.
